FPL Glossary

A guide to the strange lingo used by the FPL community.

Bonus Magnet
A player is said to be a "bonus magnet" if he consistently scores a lot of bonus points.
Budget
A budget player is one who is relatively cheap in his position. The actual price can vary between positions with attacking players generally being more expensive.
Bus Team
Setting your "bus team" means setting up your team for the following gameweek as soon as the deadline has passed (and the game is available again). The concept is that if you get hit by a bus you'd be set for the next week. Assuming you don't get hit by a bus, it's a helpful way of focusing your thinking for the coming gameweek. Coverage
Selecting players from the same team as a prized player in order to get a share of his points. For example, seeing the opportunity of a goalscorer in form and trying to pick the player who provides the assists.
Dead End
To "dead end" your team is to make transfers knowing that you don't need to worry about the future, for example, if you're planning to play a wildcard the following week or it's gameweek 38.
Differential
A player who has very low ownership and therefore provides an opportunity to gain points which the majority of other players will not get.
Enabler
An "enabler" is a low cost player who frees up your budget for spending elsewhere.
Eye Test
The "eye test" just means watching a player with your own eyes, live or on TV, and using this as your basis for judgement as opposed to looking at stats.
Fantasy Assist
A "fantasy assist" is like a normal assist – a pass setting up a goal, but includes some other scenarios as set out by the rules. A player can be awarded a fantasy assist for winning a free kick or penalty which is scored, having a shot saved leading to a follow-up shot which is scored or creating an own goal, e.g. crossing the ball which is turns into a player's own net.
Hit
A "hit" or "taking a hit" means doing an additional transfer for -4 points.
Hygiene
A default pick, a "no-brainer" pick that the majority of people will have.
Mid Price
As it sounds, a mid price player is one who is neither premium nor budget but somewhere inbetween.
Mini-wildcard
The "mini-wildcard" is not a real thing. It refers to saving a transfer to have 2 available in 1 gameweek and then also making an additional transfer ("taking a hit") so you do 3 transfers for -4 points. This enables significant change for relatively low points cost.
Premium
A premium asset is an expensive player. Managers can only afford a limited number of premiums so the expectation for points returns are high. These are often popular captaincy options.
Riker
A "Riker" pick is where a manager can't get the player they really want so try to cover the points returned by picking the second best option. Based on Commander Riker being second in command in Star Trek: The Next Generation. (Coined by WhoGotTheAssist @WGTA_FPL)
