FPL Player Value

By @FPL101_Chris,

What can we as FPL managers reasonably expect in terms of points from players based on their cost?

It's important to look at the upgrade cost rather than the total cost, e.g. a 12.5 forward costs 8.0 above the minimum of 4.5.

For the maximum investment we'd expect the maximum return, over 200 points across the season, maybe 220. When there is no upgrade, e.g. a 4.0 defensive player or 4.5 attacking player, we'd expect some minutes but not necessarily starting every game, maybe 50 points over the season.

Assuming it's a linear scale, that gives us something like this in terms of expected points for the season and per gameweek. I've assumed a player will play 34 gameweeks in a season, missing 4 through injury or rotation while in our squads.

Upgrade Example xPts/sn xPts/gw

8.0 12.5 MID 220 6.5
7.5 12.0 FWD 209 6.1
7.0 11.5 FWD 199 5.9
6.5 11.0 MID 188 5.5
6.0 10.5 FWD 178 5.2
5.5 10.0 MID 167 4.9
5.0 9.5 MID 156 4.6
4.5 9.0 FWD 146 4.3
4.0 8.5 MID 135 4.0
3.5 7.5 DEF 124 3.6
3.0 7.5 FWD 114 3.4
2.5 7.0 MID 103 3.0
2.0 6.0 DEF 93 2.7
1.5 5.5 DEF 82 2.4
1.0 5.5 MID 71 2.1
0.5 4.5 DEF 61 1.8
0.0 4.0 DEF 50 1.5

I know this is not very scientific, it is just a rough guideline to set some kind of expectation. Feel free to adjust this scale to suit what you believe are the high and low points. Players will always over- or under-perform against this anyway.

But that's without considering captaincy.
